A Sydney Without Waste Bins

Why is it so important to use waste bins of all types in Sydney? There are approximately 4.6 million people living in Sydney and with the average Australian producing 2,100 kilograms of waste, Sydney would very quickly be overrun by 90 million tonnes of rubbish. And this is just the average figure, it doesn’t factor in renovating or building a home or business, resulting in a lot more excess waste.

It can seem like it’s not really a big issue to leave bulky rubbish by the side of the road until someone else deals with it rather than going through the process of waste bin hire. But what are the consequences if everyone took this approach?

For a start, house and land values would drop significantly if people ignored waste bins. As the rubbish stayed and began to decompose, alarming health risks would begin to arise. Here is just a short list of diseases that can be contracted from exposure to rubbish:
  • Tetanus
  • Food poisoning
  • Ross River fever
  • Hepatitis A
  • Gastroenteritis
  • Hookworm
  • Dysentery
  • Trachoma

Piles of rubbish are not just prime breeding grounds for diseases, but by choosing to ignore hiring a waste bin when you have excess rubbish, you are creating a space for rats, cockroaches, mice, foxes and other vermin to breed and reach plague proportions

There’s a simple way to save Sydney from this fate. Whether it is for domestic or commercial purposes, hire appropriate waste bins to conscientiously dispose of your rubbish. By hiring waste bins, you are stopping Sydney from becoming a sea of rubbish, disease, and vermin.

If you’re interested in keeping that scenario as just a nightmare and not a reality, consider waste bin hire in Sydney. Call Bingo Group on 1300 424 646, or enquire online at www.bingogroup.com.au

Hollywood Skip Bins

For the most part, skip bins in Sydney and around the world are easily ignored. They serve a single purpose of keeping the street or area clean and they perform that function well. However, Hollywood can be a little skip bin obsessed. Skip bins, or dumpsters as Americans know them, are often in movies or television shows as a means for the protagonist to escape from a tall building without having to use the stairs. Often, if not always, the skip bin will be full of soft items, or at least not full of broken glass or hard materials. So which movies and television shows are guilty of this bizarre and unrealistic cliché?
  • The Matrix: Throughout The Matrix and its sequels, the protagonist, Neo, must outrun or outfight the antagonist that is the disturbing Agent Smith, who is often duplicated. During The Matrix, Neo is being chased by three Agents on top of a building, and he escapes by jumping into a skip bin.
  • Stuart Little 2: It is not just humans who use skip bins as crash mats. The film’s antagonist, Falcon, attempts to kill Stuart by dropping him from a tower. Stuart lands in a skip bin and survives the fall.
  • The Last Stand: A lot of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movies are full of clichés. In one of his more recent roles, in the action movie The Last Stand, during the climatic street shootout, Schwarzenegger falls into a skip bin inexplicably full of stuffed toys.
  • MacGyver: Macgyver is a cult classic because of its protagonist’s innate inventiveness that saw him create gadgets out of mundane items. However, Macgyver too fell victim to the skip bin cliché. In one episode, two bounty hunters tackle a pair of bad guys through a second-storey window. They all land in a skip bin full of bags of shredded paper.
  • CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: You don’t often think of CSI as challenging Hollywood clichés but in one episode they did just that. A liquor store robber attempts to escape the police by jumping out a window and into a skip bin. However, though he lands in the skip bin, he is already dead thanks to a shard of glass from the window cutting his neck.

Better Go for a Skip Hire Rather Than Illegal Dump It

It can seem like a huge effort to go about skip bin hire in Sydney but illegal dumping is far more of a hassle. In recent months, people in various parts of Sydney have been skipping skip bin hire fees and disposing of their waste illegally.

Possibly the most alarming case of refusing skip hire and turning to illegal dumping was committed at the start of June this year. Presumably under the cover of darkness, someone or a group of people drove their waste to the Royal National Park located south of Sydney. And what did they dump? The standard old mattress and armchair? Broken white goods and other appliances? No. Up to five tonnes of asbestos material was dumped near the car park.

Earlier this year, the Hills Shire Council pursued legal action against a developer who thought that skip hire in Sydney was too difficult a task. An estimated 200 cubic metres of excavated material was dumped at Excelsior Reserve. It was the reports from concerned neighbours that meant the culprit was found. The council must now look at stabilising and revegetating the site in Excelsior Reserve.

With the New South Wales’ government also recently announcing changes to penalties for illegal dumping, it may turn out that it would have been much cheaper for both culprits to pay the fee for appropriate skip hire. The penalties for illegal dumping now include a maximum on-the-spot fine for individuals of $1500, and $5000 for businesses, and, for repeat offenders, up to seven years in jail.

So if you think it is all a bit much to hire a skip bin in Sydney, think again. Call Bingo Group on 1300 424 646, or enquire online at www.bingogroup.com.au to save yourself real hassle, and a lot of cash.
